Repeat this same process with any of the PNGs included in this free pack. (Use the Dynamic Zoom tool right above your timeline to adjust the zoom as desired.) Select the Dynamic Zoom in the Inspector Tab to give your TV screen a bit of movement.
Now we can animate all these elements together as a whole. Select all your clips, right click, and select New Compound Clip. Finally, change the Composite Mode to Add. Adjust the Distortion slider under Lens Correction until the VHS overlay matches the distortion of the television screen. Use the Transform tool to scale it down and position it onto the television screen. Drag it into your timeline underneath the TV Screen effect and hit Shift + Left Bracket to trim the length of the clip. The VHS Overlays included in this free pack are great to experiment with as well. (You can change the color/look of these VHS and TV overlays by navigating to your Color tab and adjusting the Lift under Primaries to increase/darken the shadows.)
Add the TV Screen overlay from the free pack as well and change the Composite Mode to Add to finish the look. You can make your footage look even more authentic by adjusting the Distortion slider under Lens Correction.
Scale and position your footage as needed so it fits inside the screen. Give your footage a more realistic look by dragging one of the TV overlay video effects over your footage. Change the Composite Mode to Darken to achieve a cool framed overlay for your footage. To use the Aspect Ratio overlay, drag the effect into your timeline above your footage. You’ll also see some VHS overlays that can give your footage that grainy, distorted look, as well as some PNGs. These are Apple ProRes 4K files with alpha channels built in so the screens are transparent, making these video effects even easier to use in DaVinci Resolve. Go ahead and start exploring you’ll see some old school television sets where you can insert your own footage onto the screens.
